How Do I Get Better Internet Service In An Area With Only One Internet Provider

In the article he just said something like “if you are reading this you have internet”. Well, where I live there are very few internet providers. The one that monopolizes our area is also the only available cable service. They are expensive AND cruddy.

So that’s where I keep getting stuck. Sure, cutting the cord info is increasingly available but where/how to get the internet service that isn’t controlled by “The Cord”?
