However, one eagle-eyed fan recently realized there was a major flaw in Midnight Society’s website. At the very top of it, they discovered that one of the images showcased actually comes from the Cyberpunk 2077 2013 trailer. This led some to hope that it was teasing some collaboration with Cyberpunk 2077 and others joking about Dr Disrespect’s NFT game stealing images, what many consider a subtle irony. The truth, though, is much simpler than either of these two things.

The Midnight Society-Cyberpunk 2077 Image

The image above shows the specific image used on Midnight Society’s website, but the good news is that it’s already gone. In the grand scheme of things, it was quickly discovered (despite being old, largely unconnected marketing for Cyberpunk 2077) and quickly taken down. Robert Bowling, Studio Head at Dr Disrespect’s Midnight Society, commented on this discovery, first ruling out any potential connection with Cyberpunk 2077.

Then, he explains how this happened: a web engineer pushed an optimization to change the fallback image for the video but accidentally uploaded the wrong image—this frame from the Cyberpunk 2077 trailer. It seems many believed it was a pre-publication placeholder for the game, and aesthetically, it makes sense. There is no denying that Midnight Society’s game has serious 2013 Cyberpunk 2077 vibes, and all games/developers use others for inspiration. Ultimately, it comes down to an accident, a mistake, and a case of human error.

Dr Disrespect’s New Game

With so many eyes on Dr Disrespect’s game, which still has not been properly shown off, it’s unlikely that this was something intentional—which is worth stating simply because of the number of people unhappy with the scenario. Dr Disrespect worked on Call of Duty before streaming, and while his persona has pushed many away from himself and his game, it’s brought in just as many fans.

That is not to say everything has been peachy lately, though. Recently, Midnight Society revealed it would use NFTs as part of a Founders Pass, where early adopters of sorts are able to have some input into the game’s development. Dr Disrespect has made it clear that players will NOT have to buy NFTs to play the game, but it still has not sat well with many folks.

Cyberpunk 2077 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. Midnight Society has a new game in development.
