For those that haven’t kept up with the latest Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot leaks, there are two running theories as to who the main boss of the second DLC will be. The first and more obvious choice is Golden Frieza, as the Resurrection F arc followed directly after the Battle of Gods arc in the anime and movies, but there have been rumors suggesting that it may actually end up being Hit who is explored in the next DLC. If this is the case, there is a ton of potential to really make Hit shine in DBZ: Kakarot in a way that he hasn’t been able to in any other game.

Hit or Golden Frieza?

To get this out of the way, this is all working on the assumption that Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot skips Golden Frieza. Many think this will actually happen because of a leak that DMGaming found. A reputable and popular UK based website filled in some of the missing details on the collector’s edition for the game, claiming that the third DLC, the new story arc, would be based around the Future Trunks Saga.

Future Trunks actually makes a lot of sense for DBZ: Kakarot, as it is the Dragon Ball Super story arc which focuses most heavily on an actual storyline. This, paired with the relatively credible leak (a retailer), combine to make it very believable. That said, if it does end up being true, Bandai Namco will have to skip either Golden Frieza or the Universe 6 saga, and the Universe 6 saga does a lot more for the story and characters. Plus, Golden Frieza isn’t in the manga. Nothing is confirmed, though, so anything can happen at this point.

Who is Stronger Than Beerus?

Beerus is portrayed as the pinnacle of strength in Dragon Ball Super, and though there are beings much stronger than him (namely the angels and the Omni King), they are not the type of foes that players are likely to come to blows with any time soon. In spite of this, though, the next DLC boss needs to be tougher than Beerus, unless the DLCs plan to perpetuate Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot’s backwards difficulty curve. There are a few narrative tricks that Dragon Ball Super has used to get around this that Kakarot most certainly will employ as well.

For starters, just as in the anime, it is clear that Beerus is holding back his true strength during the level 250 fight with him. It doesn’t matter if players manage to beat Beerus at 1 HP in 45 seconds, at the end of the confrontation he will still laugh it off as though it was nothing for him. The next opponent doesn’t have to be stronger than Beerus’ full strength, just stronger than the reserved Beerus that fans have already faced. At the very least, they need to be strong enough to push Goku and Vegeta past Super Saiyan God, something which Hit is more than capable of.

Hit Doesn’t Need Brute Strength

The introduction of Hit took Dragon Ball Super in a completely different direction. With both Beerus and Golden Frieza, the enemy tried to overpower Goku and Vegeta in order to win, much like many of Dragon Ball Z’s enemies did. On the flip side, Hit is physically much weaker than Goku or Vegeta, but uses his unique Time Skip techniques and his incredible martial arts skill to keep up with them. If Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot manages to adapt this concept well, the fight could not only be more difficult but could also have much more depth.

Goku and Vegeta may have access to Super Saiyan Blue and huge energy beam attacks, but none of that matters if Hit is able to skip ahead in time and deal a finishing blow before they even know it. In the anime, this catches Vegeta off guard, and only by watching his rival’s defeat is Goku able to parse out a way to defeat Hit, but in the game, players already know what Hit’s specialty is and can begin developing strategies to counter it right away. This is where things could get really interesting.

Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot DLC 2 - Hit

Hit’s Time Skip ability defines him as a character, and this should play a huge role in the actual fight in the game. CyberConnect2 should design Hit so that he doesn’t do a ton of damage with each attack, but give him the tools needed to outmaneuver the player, making the whole thing an uphill battle. Imagine if Hit could literally freeze the player for a second or more, leaving them helpless to watch him either reposition or rack up damage. Perhaps fans could even figure out a way to beat him like Goku did.

Maybe there is a slight visual or audio cue that lets fans know that Hit is using his Time Skip ability, and by using a certain attack or a defensive burst, players can avoid damage. Ultimately, Hit should have lower base stats than Beerus, but will likely be set at a higher level and also have more tools. Beerus was difficult because of the seemingly random nature of his attack pattern and the overwhelming force and pressure he applied to players. Hit could be challenging because of his unique skills and techniques that force the player to approach the fight in a different way.
