In a new blog post, Bethesda revealed a new Hunter/Hunted player versus player mode available within Fallout 76. This mode takes a couple aspects from Battle Royale style games and mixes them with the gameplay of Manhunt from Assassin’s Creed Revelations multiplayer. During the six-person match, the player attempts to hunt down one of the other players while avoiding the crosshairs of one of the others. Players have an hour to stay alive and eliminate the competition in exchange for rewards.
Interested players can join this mode by tuning into the Hunter/Hunted Radio Station which matchmakes with up to five other players. When at least four players have joined, targets are assigned out and players can begin the hunt. Over time, the Hunt zone decreases, essentially pushing everyone still alive closer together, similar to a battle royale style game like Fortnite. Eliminating a target gives the player a new person to track down until the last person is standing. Getting at least one kill rewards XP and Caps, with bonuses for each additional kill.
Outside of this PvP mode, players will need to agree to fight one another for a true PvP experience. Simply shooting another player has a minimal effect on them and ultimately killing a person who does not want conflict will bring down harsh penalties on the offending player. When both players return fire, the duel begins. After a PvP related death, the losing player can seek revenge, which spawns them in the general vicinity of their killer with PvP still enabled. Successfully taking revenge awards the player with bonus caps promised at their original death to the other player. On the other hand, selecting Respawn ends the PvP conflict, lets the player choose the area to respawn, and disables all hostilities with other players.
Fallout 76 is set to launch on November 14, 2018 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
