Titled “Fracture,” Fortnite’s Chapter 3 finale event is set to take place on Saturday December 3, and if the promotional art is anything to go by, it seems as though fans are in for another world-ending event. According to Epic Games, Fortnite’s Fracture finale will be an “otherworldly and unexpected social event,” which has many fans wondering just what will happen, and how Fortnite will look following it.

How Fortnite Chapter 3 Could Change the Island
Fortnite’s past finale events have all been fairly chaotic and world-shattering. Fortnite’s Chapter 1 finale event, which took place in October 2019, saw a slew of rockets collide with a meteor that was headed to the island. Upon hitting the meteor, a rift opens up above Loot Lake. Called the Zero Point, players were then sucked into the rift, and the screen cut to black. Two days later, Fortnite Chapter 2 released, alongside a brand-new map called Apollo, which replaced Fortnite Chapter 1’s Athena.
Fortnite Chapter 2 lasted until December 2021, when another finale event took place. This finale saw players face off against the alien Cube Queen who attempted to take over Apollo island. After a 25-minute countdown timer concluded, the Cube Queen opened up a rift in the sky, allowing a slew of gigantic spaceships to cross over, which quickly began destroying the island’s POIs. After a brief cutscene that showed Agent Jones’ daring escape from the clutches of the IO, aided by Dwayne" The Rock" Johnson’s The Foundation, the island began to turn vertically, eventually flipping completely.
Fortnite Chapter 3 has taken place on the flipped island, now known as Artemis island. After a war with the Imagined Order, Artemis island came under a new threat. After the Zero Point becomes exposed again, a Reality Tree sprouts up on the island. This invites a new enemy. Known as The Herald, this pink-haired antagonist controls a Chrome substance that’s been gradually spreading across the island over the last Season. This has caused Chrome Vortexes to show up across the island, and has forced The Seven to launch their buildings into the sky using balloons and jet engines.
Based on the pre-release material for Fortnite Chapter 3’s Fracture finale event, it seems as though the island is in grave danger once again, and this time its destruction may be caused by this encroaching Chrome threat. The promotional art shows players being sucked into a Chrome Vortex, while other vortexes in the background tear their way through POIs. It seems pretty likely that Fortnite Chapter 3’s finale will see yet another island being destroyed. But before players are consumed by the Chrome, it seems likely that Brie Larson’s Paradigm will guide them into another reality, as she was shown to jump between them using the Zero Point in the Season’s introductory cutscene. This could lead to Fortnite Chapter 4 having a fairly similar map to Chapter 3’s, albeit with some reality-bending twists, such as a time-period shift.
Fortnite is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
