Released just a few weeks ago as Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 4, ‘Paradise,’ brings another mountain of new content to the live-service battle royale, from map changes to fresh weapons and NPC interactions to, of course, a new Battle Pass. And with this Season stretching across October and beyond, Epic Games has made sure that some of the new content fits in line with Halloween, with some spooky skins and story beats that are sure to get players in the Halloween spirit.

Paradise is the Perfect Introduction to the Halloween Season
Fortnite’s ‘Paradise’ Season introduces some new story elements to the five-year-old battle royale, some of which push the game in a more eerie direction. This Season sees a new, mysterious Chrome threat appear on Fortnite’s Artemis island. In the intro cinematic, it’s revealed that this Chrome is spreading gradually across the island, consuming all in its path, including fan-favorite characters like The Origin and The Scientist. This Chrome is seemingly controlled by a being known as The Herald, who’s set up shop in her newly built Sanctum. The introduction to this new threat is surprisingly ominous, and there’s a definite sense of dread when dropping into a match now.
On top of the impending sense of doom that’s present in Fortnite’s new story, this ‘Paradise’ Season also brings some pretty spooky skins to the game via its new Battle Pass and Item Shop. Though the Battle Pass is mainly filled with anime and superhero-inspired skins, there’s one big standout: Grizz, a cartoon bear inside a homemade Slurp mech suit. While it’s still obviously on the more lighthearted side of things, Grizz’s mech suit is a little sinister, with an off-putting smile and one scratched-out eye.
The most recent Fortnite Item Shop refresh has also brought a bunch of spooky skins back from the vault. The witch skin Hemlock has made a return, alongside the built-in emote that turns her into a zombie. The scarecrow-inspired Straw Ops and Hay Man skins are also back, with their piercing orange eyes being the perfect fit for spooky season. But by far the most impressive horror-themed skin available on the Item Shop right now is Peely Bone, which takes the beloved Peely banana character and strips off half his skin, revealing a skeleton and a few organs underneath. Peely Bone’s special built-in emote sees him playing his ribs like a xylophone, which helps to keep the oddly terrifying skin more jovial.
Epic Games has also just announced that ‘Fortnitemares,’ Fortnite’s annual Halloween event, will be returning once more this year. Coming to the game on October 18, ‘Fortnitemares’ often sees a variety of spooky enemies and map changes come to the game for a limited time. Though Epic hasn’t given fans any concrete details on what they can expect from this year’s event, it seems likely that a new crystal wolf creature could appear, as it’s the only image Epic has teased so far.
Fortnite is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and mobile devices.
